How do I totally get over anxiety without medicine?
For years I’ve had social and performance anxiety. I play the keyboard and Im very good but when an anxiety attack comes on I TOTALLY forget how to play sometimes. Being around a whole bunch of people makes me nervous. I know it has something to do with training your mind. Any exercises I can do?

you only get over it by performing the task over and over…and over.
i know this will sound like a totally half-ass answer, but i used to suffer from anxiety and used this method to overcome it:
i just decided not to care. i just realized that life was way too short to care about what other people thought of me. and i’ve just been nonchalant about certain things ever since. but be careful not to not care too much, as you’ll just end up becoming lethargic and lazy like i did for a while. it won’t happen overnight, but work at it and you’ll overcome it.
I was diagnosed with severe depression at 13, and was suicidal….the doc was sitting there telling me that I had been exposed to so much that I remained in that state since I was kid and it would be yrs before I got back to normal. Truth is, you become so miserable and unhappy, I ccouldnt eat in a resturant , or make friends that easy….i took anti depressants for 3 weeks and gave up, I had talked myself out of it before I can do it again.
I am 20 now, in competing for med school, working fulltime at a job I love and am the life of the party lol so learn to be your best friend and talk yourself out of everything. Be your voice of reason, its do or die …(dont die) lol.,
Therapy is a very effective way. I am like you. I used to have anxiety attacks and they were badly affecting my health, and i refused to take medicine. Furthermore, i am a musician, which you can detect from my name.
However, you should be careful in choosing your therapist. I advice you first to get some insight about psychological perspectives in therapy. There is the psycho-dynamic perspective (Freud), cognitive, behavioral (B F Skinner), etc. I prefer the humanistic perspective. But, it depends on your own believes.
So, before walking into a therapist office ask about his perspective and get some insight about it.
Other ways is to try find new ways to reduce anxiety levels, but therapists are more experts than us in such methods.
If you refuse medications the best thing is to get into an anxiety group where everyone suffers from anxiety (there would be one professional) and you talk through your problems and how to deal with it.
It has taken me several years but now I can go to the grocery store.
Personally, excersize works just as well as any medication that could be prescribed. Try it for at least 3 weeks at an easy pace. It worked for me.
I wish i could go without meds, i know there is relaxation tools..i went to a shrink who made me a relaxation tape and said to listen to it when i start to get anxiety attack ( i dont know where the tape is now) I am on meds and i wish i wasnt! But go to a shrink and tell him you want some relaxation tapes or whatever to help with the anxiety..i hope you are able to manage without meds,,i can’t and its causing problems with my sexual health.. and i am a newlywed!

Osho’s meditations work for me. Maybe it would be good if u first read something about his meditations and how they work – it could also help u understand urself better, because it is of vital importance to find the actual reason of ur problem.
