You are not alone in being afraid of taking the very medicine that will make you feel better. The fear is part of the illness. I urge you to give Lexpro a try.Even if you put on some weight, always remember, that when you are feeling better and are more active that you van lose that extra weight. It is important that you take the medication prescribed by your Doctor, DO NO fool around with herbal medicine at this point. Unfortunately, they work for some and not for others. You can always ask your Doctor to change your medication if you find the side effects annoying. If you take an antidepressant/anxiety medication, with a little luck, you will be over feeling poorly in about 3-4 weeks, Isn’t that worth it to you and your family>? Pleas go and have a chat with your MD>
Oh Sweetie!I understand you completely. After having my first panic attack I was afraid to go anywhere I just couldn’t because I was afraid that I would have another panic attack out there somwhere. You know what God doesn’t want us to live in fear. You can take the meds if you want to or you can try God.It’s hard to believe sometimes but God is always there even in the midst of our trouble.I cannot stress enough how much you should pray & seek counsel.Read the Bible that helped me alot.Just being able to come to God & letting Him know everything that you feel & what’s going on in your life & asking for His joy & peace takes such a HUGE load & burden off your chest.Pray ask Jesus to set you free!If you choose to take the meds also consider praying so that God can help better the results from the meds provided but do give Jesus a chance. You’ll be glad you did!
First of all, I would probably recommend AGAINST taking the “all-natural” supplement you bought online, or at least wait until you have showed it to your doctor before you try it. “All-natural” does not necessarily mean safe. Herbal supplements can have very real effects, just like drugs do, but are not regulated by the FDA like drugs are because of the Dietary Supplement Act of 1994. All they have to do is make a disclaimer, which I did manage to find by clicking on a small link at the bottom of the site you gave: “The statements made on this website have not been evaluated by the Food And Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.” By saying this, the supplements do not have to go through ANY testing by the FDA to prove that they are safe or effective, and if the FDA wants to pull them off of the market, the “burdon of proof” is on the FDA to prove that the supplement is unsafe. I could not find the ingredients listed anywhere on the website, which I find somewhat disturbing as well, so I cannot really make any recommendations as to how safe OR effective it might be. I would say, ask your doctor. Bring him/her the bottle to your next appointment.
Second, I would say, it sounds like your anxiety is really keeping you from doing some things you want or need to do. So it might benefit you to begin treatment. Lexapro is a drug that HAS been approved by the FDA as safe & effective. Yes, there are some known side effects, as there are with all drugs, but these only happen to some people, NOT ALL people. It may benefit you to take it, but that is something that only you & your doctor can decide. Since your doctor has prescribed it, I would say that means he/she thinks you could benefit from it. However, if you are worried about side effects, I would mention your concern to him/her. You should also be starting on a low dose & tapering up. Ask your pharmacist when you fill the prescription if the starting dose & directions look appropriate. The best way to minimize side effects is to “start low & go slow” as they say. That gives your body time to get used to the drug being there. The same goes for getting off the drug (you should also taper off of it, not stop “cold turkey”). Again, once you start the med, don’t see that as the final word. If you do have side effects & they are bothersome, talk to your doctor. Your doctor can help you safely stop the drug, and maybe switch it to something else.
I think Lexapro might be worth a try, because it sounds like your anxiety is affecting your daily life, but only you can make that choice. Of course, there might be other options…like counseling, but that may take awhile (and if you are afraid to go out of your house, would you go to the appointments?).
I know exactly how you are feeling; I’ve been there and “it stinks” doesn’t even cover how much it stinks. Six years ago the same kind of things started happening to me, I was 24. I went into a deep deep depression and was terrified to leave the house. If I did actually try to talk to someone my sentences wouldn’t even come out right…which made me feel stupid so it made me feel worse. I won’t go into all the details but I went through this heavily for 5 years. I was also prescribed medication but was afraid to take it and didn’t.
Truthfully it was Jesus Christ that helped me, however, I urge you to please take the medication. I now take the generic to Lexapro and have gained a few pounds but it’s been so worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Depression and Anxiety takes a tole on your body and for me after those 5 years of no meds I was getting seriously ill. I had problems all over my body. The doctors told me it was the depression but I thought they were crazy, however, when I promised them I would take the meds this time most of the symptoms went away! Now we can find out what’s really wrong with me, if anything besides a pinched nerve.
Point is this…please just at least try the Lexapro for a little while and see if it helps…it’s been so worth it for me!
Sounds like you have Anxiety about taking medicine for your Anxiety!
What a catch 22 you’re in.
Maybe the solution is to take the medication out of the equation. Then you won’t have anxiety about taking it.
And just get cognitive/behavioral therapy instead.
like taking an aspirin for a headache, your medication will make you feel better. please take your drs prescribed medication as he told you to. the benefits will far out way any side effects best wishes tess
