I used to have panic attacks, and I started doing yoga and it helped. I also started to think about what the root cause was, and it was my subconscious mind forcing me towards the path I should be on. Also, thinking about round things helped for some reason.

check your blood pressure , high blood pressure will cause this.

I have had “panic disorder” for years. First of all, you need to see a doctor. You may need therapy, and/or meds. I have had panic attacks out in public. It’s no fun. I once walked up to a total stranger and asked for their help. Lucky for me, they were sympathetic and did help me. I have taken effexor and buspar for quite some time now. It keeps the attacks under wraps, but every once in a while I do feel like I could still have one, even on the meds. See your doctor ASAP. It will not go away by itself.

I had my first panic attack when I was at my grandmother’s house eating lunch with her and my siblings. I had no idea what was going on, or what was happening to me, I just remember my chest feeling all constricted and my hands got all sweaty and I felt extremely uneasy.

The best way to deal with panic attacks in public is to find somewhere to sit down. Take a few deep, calming breaths and really try to stop the panic. Panic attacks can come from nowhere or can be triggered by some thoughts you’ve had to make you feel panicky. Think of something cheerful. Don’t dwell on the panic. Deep breaths … calm thoughts … happy memories … slow the breathing down. Having a panic attack when you’re alone is actually a lot scarier than when people are around you.
If you can’t find anywhere to sit, just stop walking, lean casually against a wall or something and focus on calming yourself.

For a cure, you’d have to go and see a doctor and talk about treatments with him/her. I don’t think there is a solid cure, but there may be medications about to ease the terribleness of going through one of those attacks.

If you get them a lot, definitely go see a doctor. If you only get them barely once every few months (like me) you can learn how to deal with them. You can’t exactly ignore them, but you can work on getting over them quicker and getting on with life. It’s absolutely terrible when you get them in bed when everyone else is asleep.

Some little ‘cures’ I use to help myself when I have them are:

-deep breaths

-looking up funny stuff on the ‘net: http://icanhascheezburger.com/ or http://xkcd.com/

-listening to calming music, or hell, whatever’s on the radio. Singing along helps.

-basically anything to take your mind off the attack. It does pass, but leaves a certain cloud over the day. Busy yourself, keep active, don’t dwell. See your doctor if things get bad.

Best of luck hon xx

I always tell people its good to talk with a doctor or a therapist about this. Just to be on the safe side of things, because other things can be going on too. And if it is anxiety, they can help with ways to cope, or medications.

Dealing with anxiety its a real tough thing, and it can become debilitating in trying to live anormal life. I know, I have social anxiety and it holds me back from doing a lot of things. The friends who have put up with me for this have helped me by encouraging me to develop the f*** it attitude. I didn’t think it would work, but I started saying it whenever I got those feelings and it set in some. I still struggle with it, and it still holds me back, but I’ve grown as a person and become less anxious and more able to do things by adopting that attitude.
